Our implementation of Fragstats is processing rasters exclusively. If you are interested in the documentation click on the Documentation link in the website menu.

For any other implementation of the Fragstats algorithms please contact the authors.

If you cannot contact them you can always try Google to find your answers. We have no idea of how these other implementations work.
