Hi,
does anywhere experience exist when trying to run (Z1) Conductance index in terms of memory requirements? I tried a 1 million cells resistance grid and run out of memory.

Hi Hans,

I cannot tell you exactly how much memory you need but I can give you a general estimate.
Fragstats loads a landscape in a a 32-bit integer array which in your case takes 4 million bytes to store.
It then creates internal buffers and data structures that raise the memory need to about 8 to 12 times that, depending on your point density. If you use a resistance grid and/or a probability grid it adds another 1 or 2 integer buffers. There are other, transitory, data structures that are used in the process but they should not add significantly to the memory allocation.
In any case, any computer nowadays should be able to handle the total memory needs for an analysis like this.
I assume the system's memory is not allocated to some other processes. For instance, web browsers can take up gigabytes easily.
You can use the Windows Task Manager to look at Fragstats process' memory usage as it loads the dataset and when you start the analysis up to the point it runs out of memory.
If you need further help you can provide a copy of the model and dataset (not necessarily the one you work with, just something that produces the same error) and I'll take a look.

Best regards,
Eduard

Hi Eduard,
Thanks for your response!
CPU is i7, Win10, Memory is 12GB, when running 94% used. I’m running the user interface. After 13m: “Error: Fragstats cannot allocate memory for analysis. Model execution halted.”
Model: I have a 5meters resistance tif-grid prepared by ArcGIS pro, values range is 1…100. I checked conductance box and “no source probability”. Analysis parameters are set to moving window with kernel weighting and used a bandwidth of 10meters (which is not much).
I can send you the resistance grid if you want.
Thanks for your help!
Best regards
Hans

Problem solved:-)
I tried an other tif and that worked...
